Santa Clarita Storm Downs Flash 2-1

Saturday night at Del Norte High School in San Diego was the scene of a rematch from the 2012 season, where the Storm spoiled a potentially undefeated season for the Flash by beating them in Santa Clarita for the final game of the 2012 season.

This would also the first meeting for these two teams in the 2013 season. The Flash came off a 2-0 road loss to the Orange County Pateadores last week and were hoping for a victory in front of their hometown fans.

However, it was the Storm again who spoiled things for the Flash as the visitors scored two goals in less than 35 minutes.

Striker Andres Bueno landed a brace of goals as he capitalized on chances in front of goal. He needed no more than seven minutes before seeing his first scoring opportunity.

He would score his first goal just twelve minutes later as he received a pass from the right before bending a shot around Flash goalkeeper Nicholas Harpel.

In the 33rd minute, Storm midfielder Alex Harlley carried the ball down the right side about 25 yards out and managed a through pass to Bueno, who quickly slipped it past the reach of an outstretched Harpel for the his second goal on the night. This proved to be the game-winner even as the Flash staged a comeback in the second half.

The Storm’s defense stepped up and turned away many opportunities by San Diego, holding the home side to just one shot on target in the entire first half.

The Flash would put one past Santa Clarita keeper Aaron Perez three minutes into the second half as miscommunication and confusion in front of goal resulted in a score for the hosts. Unfortunately for the Flash, it would be their only goal on the night as Santa Clarita held on to their 2-1 lead for the big win.

The Storm will host FC Hasental at Canyon HS Stadium on Saturday, April 27th. The game has major implications with both clubs at the top half of the table.
