Bluffton assistant takes the helm at the Ohio club

ZANESVILLE, OH - November 9, 2012 - Zanesville Athletic FC Chairman Scott White has announced the appointment of Brandon Ponchak as head coach of the expansion NPSL side.

"This is a tremendous honor that Scott has given me," said Ponchak. "He has a great vision for the club and a passion for the game and really wants to see soccer in Southeastern Ohio continue to develop and thrive, and I share that same vision."
Ponchak is currently serving as an assistant coach for the Bluffton University Men’s Soccer Team in Ohio. Prior to his work at Bluffton, Ponchak was an assistant coach at Lexington Christian Academy (KY) and Dakota Wesleyan University (SD).
Ponchak has also spent time with Charlotte Eagles and the Dayton Dutch Lions, both affiliated with the United Soccer Leagues.
"I hired Ponchak because of his connection to the Zanesville area and his strong desire to develop the young talent of the area so they can reach the next level,” White commented. “Coach Ponchak will make ZAFC a competitive team right away and will serve as a great ambassador for soccer and build a bridge between our youth programs and our NPSL team."
While fielding a competitive team is important to Ponchak, creating a great atmosphere for the fans and the area’s young players will be a main focus for the new coach.
"It would be great to be competitive in the conference, play in the Open Cup and play some friendlies against some PDL or even MLS teams," said Ponchak, "But I really want to put together a team that fans can come and enjoy.”
Ponchak shares many connections to the Zanesville area and won’t be viewed as an outsider, but rather a leader in the soccer community.
"We want to give local players the opportunity to watch a high level of soccer that they can aspire to play at,” Ponchak added. “I am definitely dedicated to this club, the players that will be a part of the organization, the fans, and the people that are invested in continued development of the beautiful game."
